D. Scott McLeod, CFP®, Chfc®
In January 2011, D. Scott McLeod, CFP®, ChFC® took over as president of Brown Financial Advisory with one goal in mind; to continue the legacy established by John Brown and his unwavering commitment to excellent service, impeccable integrity and a consistent investment management discipline.
Scott graduated from East Tennessee State University in 1994 with a degree in Corporate Finance and Investments and shortly afterward, joined First American Bank in Kingsport, Tennessee where he became an Investment Advisor, beginning his practical experience in investment management.
In 1998, Scott accepted a position at First Tennessee Bank as Vice President and in 2001 he earned his Certified Financial Planner™ designation. Since then, Scott has worked with wealth management firms in Memphis, TN and in Birmingham, Alabama where he specialized in the areas of Retirement Planning, Risk Management and Insurance, Tax Planning and Estate Plan Reviews for the firms’ largest clients.
To continue to develop his planning expertise, Scott now pursues more than 30 hours of continuing education credit each year.
Scott has been active in his community throughout his career as well. While in Birmingham, Scott helped to establish the Christian World Business Exchange, served as the Treasurer for Connect Point Ministries, was a member of the Birmingham Estate Planning Council and volunteered with the United Way. Now, he is very active in his church and among his other ministry commitments, he leads a foreign missions team on annual service trips to Honduras.
Outside work, Scott is happily married to Marla and they have two children, Banner and McKenzie. He enjoys running and has competed as an amateur triathlete. He is a musician who plays a couple of instruments including the Scottish bagpipes which he has played for more than 30 years.
Chris Alman, CFP®
Chris, a Baldwin County native, attended The University of Alabama where he received his bachelor degree in Finance in 2009. Upon graduation, Chris moved to Texas and began his own real estate investment consultancy. He specialized in working with clients to identify opportunities to invest in residential real estate.
After working on a number of projects, Chris decided to pursue a career in personal financial planning. He joined a Fee-Only wealth management firm in 2010 and obtained his CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ Certification shortly thereafter.
In 2014, Chris joined our team as a financial planner. He is responsible for assisting clients with Retirement Planning, Tax Planning, Social Security Strategies, Risk Management, Charitable Giving, and other planning concerns.
Chris is a member of The National Association of Personal Financial Advisors (NAPFA) and serves as the Chair for NAPFA Genesis – a peer group of financial planners under the age of 33 dedicated to encouraging professional growth, contributing information and resources, and advancing the Fee-Only financial planning profession. Chris is a member of the Daphne/Spanish Fort Kiwanis Club and currently serves on the board for The Anchor Cross Cancer Foundation. In 2017, he was recognized by the Eastern Shore Chamber of Commerce as the Young Professional of the Year.
Chris and his wife Holly have two beautiful daughters, Allie and Mollie. They live in Fairhope and are members of 3 Circle Church. Chris is an avid fly fisherman with dreams of catching fish all around the world.
Marla McLeod, RP®
Marla is responsible for bookkeeping, supervising our portfolio management software, training employees, overseeing day to day back office operations and human resource functions. She manages to keep us all straight while maintaining a big smile and often feeding us with homemade goodies.
Marla grew up in East Tennessee and has 10 years banking experience that encompasses operations, employee training and human resources. Her background was a perfect fit when she joined Brown Financial Advisory in 2011. She received her Registered ParaplannerSM designation in February 2013 from the College of Financial Planning. Her course of study covers the five disciplines of financial planning and gives her practical knowledge of the profession, making her even more valuable to our clients.
Marla and Scott have been happily married since 1997 and have two children, Banner and McKenzie. Marla enjoys nothing more than spending time with her family and making lasting memories and is very active in her church and in foreign missions. She loves to serve others, spend time outside and enjoys baking when she has time.
